  • Responsibilities

    The company is developing the next generation advanced transmissions controls to meet the demands of the new products and customers. Our team is looking for a transmission functional safety development engineer capable of designing transmission diagnostics to support functional safety development for the applications using automatic transmissions. Engineer will function as an extension of the transmission OBD diagnostic team and will be capable of performing all the required tasks required to develop and document the updates in implementation.


    The company needs support to develop and document transmission control algorithms and create validation test plans as well as generic experiments at component level to support functional safety development for production implementation on the transmission applications.



    • The Functional Safety Engineer is responsible for leading functional safety activity according to ISO 26262 for projects.
    • Act as the primary FuSi interface for transmission controls.
    • Development of technical work products specific to functional safety, e.g. hazard and risk assessment, item definition, functional safety concept, technical safety concept, FTAs, DFMEAs, criticality analyses, other safety analyses, and test coverage analysis for safety requirements
    • Support transmission diagnostic improvements, cost reduction efforts through control logic development and other quality initiatives.
    • Support transmission calibration efforts by contributing to initial calibration guide development.
    • Support software changes and verification for production.
    • Support creation of component level diagnostic DVP tied to the documented requirements


    Transmission Controls Functional Safety Engineer is tasked to deliver the following:

    • HARA (Hazard Analysis & Risk Assessment)
      • Hazard Analysis
      • City Road
      • Freeway
      • Residential
      • Rural Highway
      • Suburban
      • Off Road
      • Vehicle Stationary
    • FSC (Functional safety Concept)
      • FTAs - Single Point failures
      • FSRs
    • TSC (Technical safety Concept)
      • FTAs - Multi Point Failures (High ASIL rating )
      • Include FMEA input
      • TSR‘s



    • A four-year degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field
    • 3 years of experience in automotive electronic systems or related industry developing safety-critical requirements, software, or electronic hardware systems.
    • Relevant experience in embedded systems development.
    • Knowledgeable in fault tree analysis and FMEA
    • Experience in standard productivity tools (MS Office Suite)
    • Outstanding interpersonal and problem solving skills
    • Self-starter who is able to work cross-functionally with other organizations
    • Highly motivated individual with a track record of "getting things done"
    • Basic knowledge in micro-controller hardware and embedded software
    • Must be able to work with multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical and controls)
    • May be required to drive a company car. Valid driver’s license is required as well as a clean driving record.

    • May be required to travel domestically and internationally (0-20%)


    • Advanced/Master degree in Engineering
    • Deep understanding of powertrain functions and Controls Algorithms focused on conventional combustion engines interfaces with transmissions
    • 5 years of experience in automotive electronic systems or related industry developing safety-critical requirements, software, or electronic hardware systems.
    • ISO26262 certification
    • Experience with risk analysis and fault tolerant redundancy architectures
    • Preferred candidate will have experience with automotive functional safety.
    • Trained in requirement management tools
    • Working experience with automotive development/calibration tools (ETAS, INCA, CDA, Vector, DOORS)
